CANCELLED - Sorry I Missed Your Show: The Anastasio Project

  • Yerba Buena Center for the Arts 701 Mission Street San Francisco, CA, 94103 United States (map)

NAKA stands in solidarity with the boycott of YBCA, called on by the eight BAN 9 artists who publicly altered their works in the fight for the liberation of Palestine. We stand in solidarity with all the artists, all the people in the streets and blocking bridges, all the nations of the world, except the US, who have called for a Ceasefire. NAKA joins our community’s demands to boycott, and will not be performing at YBCA.

Read the Artists' Open Letter

Watch a film screening of NAKA Dance Theater’s seminal work The Anastasio Project (2015), followed by a conversation with artists from the project.

The Anastasio Project (2015) is a multidisciplinary, roving public performance that kickstarts an investigation of racial profiling, state brutality, and border violence using the story of Anastasio Hernandez-Rojas as a point of departure.

Anastasio Hernandez-Rojas was a Mexican national who was detained at the US-Mexico border in May 2010, and subsequently killed by a dozen border patrol agents. To this day, none of the border patrol agents have been held accountable.

It’s a phrase most artists and fans of performance have likely uttered at some point: “Sorry I missed your show!” In the series, you can experience past performances you may have missed, through archival media and live conversation. Sorry I Missed Your Show is presented as part of BAN9 Dance, which is curated by BAN9 curatorial council member José Ome Navarrete Mazatl.
