A core part of the Rainin Foundation’s Open Spaces Program is supporting partnerships between artists and organizations. Join NAKA Dance Theater (NAKA) and Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) in a discussion about their collaborative project, “Y BASTA YA!” This multidisciplinary project is based on Indigenous and Latina immigrant stories exploring issues of patriarchy, systematic gender violence and invisibility. NAKA and MUA will share how they center Language Justice in their work with Spanish and Mam speaking communities, as well as how they balance creative and programmatic goals in service of amplifying the power and healing in this community of women survivors.
Mujeres Unidas y Activas is a grassroots organization of Latina immigrant women with a double mission of promoting personal transformation and building community power for social and economic justice. “Y BASTA YA!” was supported by the Open Spaces Program in 2020.
Speakers:
• Debby Kajiyama and José Ome Navarrete Mazatl, NAKA Dance Theater
• Maria Jimenez, Support Services Program Director, Mujeres Unidas y Activas
• Y BASTA YA! Artistic collaborators
This event will feature American Sign Language (ASL) and live closed captioning in English.
