Live Arts in Resistance:
Showcase #7

EastSide Cultural Center / November 16-17, 2018

Alchemical Movement
a movement of/for Change

Note from co-curator Dana Fitchett:

...Collectively, this roster spans the disciplines of movement; theater; spoken word; sound design/music; and video and film work; cuts across themes of justice, identity, trauma, power, and more; and represents overlapping facets of our local Black, queer, arts, and organizing communities...Creating and preserving space for communities most impacted by oppression and colonization is always a crucial task; and while no post-colonial times have been free of strife and struggle in some or many corners of the globe, our current apocalyptic political/environmental/social realities—here in the states and beyond—are deeply interconnected and underscore the urgency of such efforts. In the words of Carlos Saavedra, “The cornerstone of decolonization is listening. And listening mindfully. And listening not romantically.” I invite you now to listen carefully to the vital and precious voices of these artists, radically imagining and reimagining the present and our collective future, right before our eyes.
