Complexities of State Sponsored Terror: Community Forums
Join NAKA and EastSide for three community gatherings presented in conjunction with The Anastasio Project to celebrate the collective memory and shared histories of communities of color, and create a platform to discuss urgent issues and struggles. We explore the complexities of state sponsored terror: ICE, the police, FBI, the military and their supporters. The more we know the better prepared will be to hold them accountable.

Bertha Gutierrez and Families of San Diego
Families of the victims of border violence will join the community of Mujeres Unidas y Activas through a Skype video conference to share their testimonies and amplify their voices to nurture a sense of healing among communities that have the same struggle but live in different geographies.

Cat Brooks from ONYX and the Anti Police-Terror Project will discuss the criminalization and murder of Black Women in America. Can police ever create public safety for black women? What are our alternatives? What is the next step for the movement for Black Lives and the Oakland Collective?

with Matt Gonzalez, SF Public Defender's Chief Attorney
Matt Gonzalez, former San Francisco supervisor and current attorney for Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez (immigrant accused of murder in Pier 14 shooting) will join Mujeres Unidas y Activas to talk about contemporary immigration issues. What is at stake for immigrants rights in our community? What do we need to know about sanctuary cities policies? What should we do in order to retain them? How the right-wing media is using this case for political leverage?

Compartiremos historias de nuestras comunidades y discutiremos problemas urgentes que nos afectan hoy en día. Las pláticas se enfocarán en las complejidades del terrorismo de estado: ICE, la policía, FBI, los militares y sus partidarios. Cuanto más informados estamos, mejor preparados para hacerlos responsables.

Matt González, ex supervisor de San Francisco, actualmente abogado de Juan Francisco López Sánchez (inmigrante acusado de asesinato en Pier 14 en San Francisco) se unirá a Mujeres Unidas y Activas para hablar sobre temas de inmigración vigentes. Lo que está en juego para los derechos de los inmigrantes en nuestra comunidad? ¿Qué necesitamos saber acerca de las políticas de ciudades santuario? ¿Qué debemos hacer para mantener esas políticas? Cómo los medios de comunicación de derecha está utilizando este caso como ventaja política?
