Desarollando una Obra de Expresión Artistica
¿En qué consiste el proyecto? ¿Que se va a realizar?
Se va a realizar un proyecto de fotonovela, que consiste en hacer 10 cuadros, banner o murales. Es un proyecto que vincula el arte con la realidad social. Se priorizará la historia de lucha de Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA). Contaremos la historia de MUA a través del arte.
Se podrá expresar a través del arte las ideas, pensamientos, temáticas, problemáticas que nos parezca relevante resaltar. Partiremos de los intereses de la membresía de MUA, en descubrir que es lo que queremos decir, que queremos contar. Lograr que se visibilicen nuestras ideas, nuestras luchas. Queremos que nos vean, no queremos estar escondidas, queremos trabajar con problematicas sociales que nos afectan, como por ejemplo la violencia domestica, la discriminación, la pobreza. Lograr representar a nuestra comunidad, mujeres, inmigrantes, latinas. Somos sujetos de derechos, no objetos.
¿Cómo lo vamos a realizar?
Utilizando las fotos de MUA, seleccionarlas, analizarlas, recopilarlas. Cada foto tiene una historia, tiene un contexto social y político. Necesitamos conocer las historias de las fotos, para poder crear las fotonovelas. Visualizar con el equipo de trabajo las temáticas a abordar, logrando un consenso. Tener en cuenta las historias y los intereses de la membresía.

El equipo de trabajo está conformado por lideres de MUA: Luciana Rodriguez, Leticia Garcia, Victoria Pablo y Adriana Perez.

Nuestro interprete (Mam-Español) es Paulina Calmo. Bajo el seguimiento y la comunicación permanente de los directores de MUA y NAKA y la gran colaboración de un artista, el fotógrafo Scott Tsuchitani.
Somos un equipo de trabajo en el que apostamos a la inclusión, a la participación. Todas somos de distintos lugares, venimos con una mochila cargada de ilusiones, de sueños, y cada una con nuestra cultura. Hablamos distintos idiomas, somos distintas pero iguales!!

Developing a Work of Public Art
Tell us about the project
As part of NAKA Dance Theater’s Y Basta Ya! project, we are creating a “fotonovela” which will consist of a series of 10 visual art pieces (pictures, banners or murals). The project is a way to express social issues through artistic practice. We shine a light on the history of Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA), organizing and empowering the community. We will tell MUA’s story through art.
Art is an expression of ideas, thoughts, themes and issues that are relevant to our lives. We take our cues from the MUA general membership, who will help us decide what stories we want to tell. We’ll be successful if we can make our ideas and struggles more visible. We want to be seen; we don’t want to hide. We want to organize around social issues that affect our lives, such as domestic violence, discrimination, poverty. We represent our community of women, immigrants, Latinas. We are not passive recipients of our rights; we have the agency to demand what we deserve.
How will it be realized?
We will collect, analyze and make selections from archival photos from MUA. Each photo tells a story in a social and political context. We need to know the histories of the photographs. Our team will come up with a vision, taking into account the interests of the general membership of MUA.

Our creative team is comprised of MUA leaders": Luciana Rodriguez, Leticia Garcia, Victoria Pablo and Adriana Perez.

Our Mam-Spanish interpreter is Paulina Calmo. We work under the continued guidance of the directors of MUA and NAKA, as well as photographer and visual artist Scott Tsuchitani.
Our team values inclusion and encourages active participation. We hail from different places, and each of us carries a backpack full of illusions, dreams and our own cultural background. We speak different languages. We are unique and yet share many things in common.
